Busy Busy Hills Fabric and Craft De-Stash, one year on.

It has been a long time since I have had chance to get on here and write a blog on anything, be it about clay creations, sewing or the de-stash events and even life. Tonight I am going to at least write about what has been occupying me the most, my de-stash events.

Well it is now a year in and I have held four de-stash events so far and they are just getting bigger each time, it is so awesome to see so many come together and help each other out in different ways.

We have raised money for the local bush fire brigade, helped out with collecting fabrics for  a prison release program, made bags for SARC, and currently we are raising money and goodies for Cancer Quilts Against Cancer, it has been an amazing journey.

I could not have done any of it without of the amazing people I have had involved along the way.

We are now onto our fifth event in a just under two weeks time and also we have just released an event in Bunbury at the request of the ladies down there.

thumbnail_hills-fabric-cdIt has been such an amazing time that I can not wait to tell you all about how the next one pans out.

And I shall try very hard to update my blog at least monthly with clay and sewing works for your enjoyment.

DSCN1789Yesterday I had my sewing group over and I talked it over with the other half and said I think some selfish sewing today as I have spent the last few days cutting out a heap of aprons, bias, bunting and you name it I think I cut it. So sew a dress for me today was my objective, something light and flowing not to fitted and that would show of this great fabric from Potters Fabrics.

DSCN1791This is the pattern I finally selected out of my stash, I liked the simplicity of the long dress and it fit all my wants, one happy sewer here with the end result.

DSCN1772What more can I say, other than I love love love this.

The pattern was super easy to follow my machine played ball all the way through, no arguments on either side and it took about two hours start to finish. Must admit I read the instructions and pinned anything that had to be done first including getting gathering points done.                        This fabric came from Potters Fabric on one of the fabric buying days as a group we had, oh so easy to spend in this store, stay away I must.

Below is the pattern itself. Thank you Simplicity for making a pattern that I know I will be coming back to again and again.

Christmas Dress Newlook K6181

DSCN1721This is my Christmas dress that I have just completed, it is from Newlook Workroom K6181, it is  a Project Runway dress that I liked the look of.

I changed the collar line as it was to high up for me and the shape was just not it. The fabric came from a garage sale and cost me $2, and the lace came from a girlfriend destashing so all I had to get myself was some thread to match, happy days.

Love the use of old lace on old fabric, not happy with pattern sizing as it said to my size use a 14 really should have used an 18 for ease.

Merry Christmas everyone.

DSCN1422This is a UFO I have been determined to get to finish, all it needed was the top half attaching to the bottom, bias, elastic and hemming, not much, but.

DSCN1431This is a very old pattern that I have had floating about for a long time, a very simple one as well, as you can see from the pattern, three pieces is all it takes. So why did it take so long you may ask, well put it this way, I found other things to do, or maybe I was procrastinating about getting it done, or maybe I forgot, think that closer to the mark, as I had a good look through the sewing room and found two boxes with “Sewing Project’s” written on them, glad upon looking one was full of UFO’s and one full of more fabric, yay. So now it is done and only a few more UFO’s to go.

Organised Chaos

IMAG0837Now I sat down and said to myself, list what needs making, okay tick, next pull out all the fabric and patterns, tick, next start cutting out, tick.

Well I have made a dent, all those that are bagged up are cut out and have pattern, fabric, thread and notions in waiting for me to sew. then there is the rest, tis getting there I think and then I realise not long till my daughter’s birthday and two items need doing for her and a shirt for her brother to wear out for the birthday breakfast a dress for me for the same and a shirt for my partner, arrrhhhhh what do I think I am up sitting on the laptop at 11pm instead of sewing then…tee her that’s right taking  a break to sleep.
