Busy Busy Hills Fabric and Craft De-Stash, one year on.

It has been a long time since I have had chance to get on here and write a blog on anything, be it about clay creations, sewing or the de-stash events and even life. Tonight I am going to at least write about what has been occupying me the most, my de-stash events.

Well it is now a year in and I have held four de-stash events so far and they are just getting bigger each time, it is so awesome to see so many come together and help each other out in different ways.

We have raised money for the local bush fire brigade, helped out with collecting fabrics for  a prison release program, made bags for SARC, and currently we are raising money and goodies for Cancer Quilts Against Cancer, it has been an amazing journey.

I could not have done any of it without of the amazing people I have had involved along the way.

We are now onto our fifth event in a just under two weeks time and also we have just released an event in Bunbury at the request of the ladies down there.

thumbnail_hills-fabric-cdIt has been such an amazing time that I can not wait to tell you all about how the next one pans out.

And I shall try very hard to update my blog at least monthly with clay and sewing works for your enjoyment.

Completed Bedspread/Doona Cover “Japanese Inspiration” part two

DSCN1842Update on the bedspread that was once finished, well I decided to make a change and rather than it be a doona cover I wanted it to be a spread for the bed.                                                           So apart it came and wadding hand stitched to the front, then the back pinned and stitched with decorative stitching (used up five bobbins to do it), still wondering why I did not just get it quilted by someone else for me, done now so.

DSCN1836So now it is complete, I am happy with how it looks and hope the other half does to.

Tis Finished At Last

DSCN1112It is finally finished, it has been a long slog (see previous posts) with a lot going on at other times from garden reno, to paint stripping in the house to other sewing for gifts, but yes at long last it is done.

It has been a labour of love as it has been great fun, from using mens ties for the bias, roughly eleven meters of it and all second hand. The fabrics I used came from mens shirts and fat quarters, old lace I had and fabric from op shops.

Melbourne Cup 2012 Skirt Vogue V8425 C

DSC03460 DSC03461Okay better late than never putting my finished skirt up this is one I made for last years Melbourne Cup lunch.

The silk in it came from a dress that I unpicked, it took me a whole day to do so, and was found in a bag in a shop in Dwellingyup (WA) on my Burdastyle Weekend Away.

I have since made another one in black.

Oh and before you ask yes I made the top and the necklace, but as to pattern for the top, so long ago and so changed over time to not even remember what it started as.

The pattern show’s it sitting around your waist but I adjusted mine to sit up higher, more corset like..

Picinniny Complete

IMAG0727Now I promised ( from this to now) to show the finished product.

I had great fun with sewing this on the back seat of a bus as I travelled around the back roads of NSW following roughly 150 very old bikes, my partners bike is 102 years old for example.

Not much more I can say on this other than enjoy and night for now….

Picinniny Pillow Pattern

IMAG0650My partners mother asked me to do up a square for the quilt that she is doing with her group, now as you will have seen I do not do the norm if I can help it, but in this case I can do for a cause…(a great group of women all getting together with one common theme :))

So above is my concept so far, pinned in place awaiting me ironing it onto the fabric before I start on the blanket stitch to attach it all.

IMAG0657-1Now she is ironed in place, next the pulling it all together to make cohesive, oh nearly forgot to mention her hair, she is getting plaits with buttons on the end to represent bows and blue eyes.

Will update when complete.
